Badbury rings p2p: Race report

Julie Wadland took our lovely Glenmount (aka Tony) down to Badbury Rings point to point race meeting today. Following his two last narrow defeats in 2 1/2 mile races, this was Tony’s first step up to 3 miles, with jockey James King on board.

James adopted different tactics today, with Glenmount leading from the start in a field of 14 runners, going off at evens favourite. This change suited him perfectly and he soon had a number of the field struggling to keep up. With 3/4 of a mile to go, James kicked on, leaving the field in his wake, beating the horse in second (trained by Ben Pauling) by 25 lengths, with the horse in third a further 15 lengths behind. This was a very impressive performance for Glenmount to win his maiden, Julie will now step him up in class to a restricted race, hopefully sometime in March.
