milborne st andrew: race report

Trained by Julie Wadland

Wilton p2p Milborne St. Andrew

3m good to soft

Those of us who headed down to Dorset to see Tony’s first run since his maiden win at the end of February were definitely not disappointed.

Taking a step up in class from maiden company into what looked a competitive 10 runner Restrictions race, Glenmount was the clear favourite with the bookies opening at odds of 4/7.

Under a very positive ride from James King he led from the start, growing in confidence throughout. After the second circuit with a mile or so to go James kicked on and started to stretch the field, with Glenmount putting on a fine display of jumping.

Two fences out James set sail for home with only one other realistic challenger left, Dorset Diamond who had only once been out of the first four in his previous 9 races.

A slightly nerve-jangling jump over the last (worse for onlookers than for the jockey James reported, he just took a good look at it) saw our boy run on to win by a comfortable 4 lengths with the third horse a further 20 lengths behind.

There were a lot of encouraging noises from the commentator and on-lookers around the paddock about Glenmount’s performance, and lots of excitement from us to find out what he is capable of. We were very pleased for Julie who has joint ownership with us. She has done a fabulous job with him, a really exciting prospect. Another win for 360 and think you’ll agree a rather impressive looking trophy!

Update: Tony has come out of the race well and enjoyed a hero’s breakfast in bed this morning!
