An eerily quite day at Southwell, which was only open to members and owners due to recent flooding and the closure of parts of the stand. The groud was very dead and sticky after plenty of rain then sunshine and strong winds, with Martin Keighley saying it was more like a 4 mile race.

Magic was always prominent, keeping up with pace well with the highly regarded and eventual winner Globe Player, who slipped the field half a mile out and won easily by approximately 16 lengths. Magic kept up to the task well round the final bend, looking as if he’d got his nose in front in a tight three way finish for second, coming fourth by less than a length.

We were delighted with this performance for a significant step up in trip, never looking to give up on a day when the majority of fields were pulling up. Harry was very happy with the ride especially with the condition of the ground and Magic will have learned a lot racing over his ideal distance. Martin will see how he comes out of the race and we hope for another run within the month.
